Students in Inman USD 448 schools have the best of both worlds – small town personalized attention and community support coupled with access to support services and technology often associated with much larger school districts. The result is an educational experience that provides a quality education to the community’s students as evidenced by their accomplishments while in Inman schools and their achievements after graduation.

“Our community is very supportive of our schools and our children,” Inman USD 448 Superintendent Kevin Case says. “And that support comes in a variety of ways. Whether it’s community attendance at music and theater productions, sporting events and classroom-related special activities; financial support of fundraisers or through tax dollars; or countless volunteer hours given by parents and other community members, all are evidence that our students are an important, valued part of the community. ”

The district will have about 445 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 during the 2010-11 school year. Providing the educational support for those students are 40 certified staff members and 35 classified staff members employed by the district. Additional specialized educational services are provided by employees of the McPherson County Special Education Cooperative assigned to the Inman schools.

The caring, professional and dedicated staff is a key to student success, according to Mr. Case, and every effort is made to ensure that teachers and staff members have the tools they need – even in challenging economic times -- to provide a quality learning experience, whether it is in the classroom, the lunch room, on the playground or the athletic field.

INMAN MUSEUM, Main and Center

Antique farming equipment and many reminders of a time past highlight the history of Inman. But the “wow” are the built exhibits depicting an 8 x 12-foot replica of the historic Bethel Church built with adobe bricks and wood from the original church as well as a wheelwright shop, a one-room country school, a mercantile shop, and a barber shop – all built with 100-year-old materials. Work has begun on restoring a migrant house and ground has been broken to add a barn to the facility.

HISTORIC FLOUR MILL, West Gordon

The faded red mill stands south of the grain elevators. All are abandoned now but the flour mill was once known as one of the finest mills in central Kansas. Built in the early 1890s, the mill was once the place where local farmers brought their Turkey Red Wheat and where Enns Best flour and later Dixie Lilly flour were produced. Two 4,000 bushel concrete grain tanks erected by 1908 were said to be the first concrete grain tanks in Kansas. The mill and grain elevators ceased operation in 2001.

SUNDANCE FARMS

Operated as a non-profit, this working horse ranch is dedicated to people with disabilities. They even have their carriages specially designed. Horses range from a small 28” horse to a 2,000 pound Clydesdale -- and a donkey with a prosthetic leg! With a fishing pond and all things horse available, tours and birthday parties are welcome.

INMAN MOTOCROSS

Inman Motocross is located 1 mile east and ½ mile north of Inman in the country park. Originally constructed in the mid-nineties, the award-winning track has now been completely rebuilt and is better than ever! Watch events or become a member to practice on the motocross track and the pee wee track.
